Progress has no pause with HOKA triathlete Jan Frodeno, Olympic Gold Medalist and one of the sport's all-time IRONMAN® greats.
Triathlon legend, Olympic champion Jan Frodeno is at the very top of his game. Born in Cologne, Germany but spending much of his childhood in South Africa, he started out as a swimmer at the age of 15 and entered triathlon in 2000. Frodeno won gold in the men's triathlon at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, but that success was just the beginning. Since that life-changing moment 14 years ago, the athlete has gone on to establish himself as one of the sport’s all-time IRONMAN® greats – becoming a three-time winner of the Ironman World Championship in 2015, 2016, and 2019, and two-time winner of the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in 2015 and 2018.
Jan has always been motivated by the sport from a young age and has shared where his motivations stem from: “I was very ambitious and genuinely loved pushing myself to a limit, I always felt that it was something I was drawn to rather than pushed into. Ultimately, that is what led me to pursue the path of Olympic glory and my dream of being at the Olympics, and to later reinvent myself to take part in Ironman racing.”
Despite achieving these incredible career goals, Jan always has an eye pointing towards his future goals with a strong desire to progress and improve. He is deeply motivated by the new generation of athletes who are bringing something new to the sporting world, pushing him to dig deeper and have the opportunity to face off against the best. We take a deeper look into Jan’s passion and determination for his sport and his ambitions for the future. Emphasising how his progress has no pause, he shares a personal insight into the importance of having the right training equipment and how it has got him to be his injury-free self today. Reflecting on the future of his career, he shares his own inspirational words that every type of athlete can be inspired from: “It’s important to keep going, keep pushing and pursuing.
